How do I hide my desktop icons in Snow Leopard ?

On previous versions of OSX there was an option in Finder to hide the icons presented on the Desktop. The option is not available anymore in the preference panel of the Finder, but still exist in the system.

To hide the icons, from the Terminal type the following:

defaults write CreateDesktop -bool false

If you change your mind and want to restore the Desktop icons, from Terminal:

defaults write CreateDesktop -bool false

You will need to relaunch the finder (from the force quit window) for the changes to take effect.

Or if you want to restart the Finder from Terminal you can type the following:

killall Finder

Hint: The capital 'F' in Finder is important.
